| From experience how much are people paying to dive in various places (without rental) such as (prices are my research so far - and probably wrong!) Sharm - 35$ two dives Cancun/Mexico - 43$ single, 52$ twin Dominican Republic 34$ single, Jamaica - 34$ single The difference is substantial - i.e the same cost for 2 dives in sharm for one in the dominican? In Mexico where you would expect competition to be strong (as in sharm) the cost is nearly 50% more than Sharm. Obviously packages bring the cost down somewhat, but do they seem about right? |

EPCOT Dive Quest at Walt Disney World has to be the most expensive dive in the world... The dive (which includes "backstage" tour, T-shirt, all gear cos they don't let you take yours and some other bits and pieces) = $140. 10% Discount = -$14 Video of your dive = $35 Another "Diver Mickey" T-shirt = $20 Grand total = $161 So that's £105 for 45 mins in 25' of water! The people I dived with charge £36 ($50 going on the local exchange rate) for 2 sea dives. I was still offered a discount. Their prices are on the Net. 1 peso = £18 approximately. www.phoceacaribedive.com That said, I'd rate them much higher than the operations I encountered in Sharm. The kit was more or less brand new Beuchat and Aqualung. Not bad at all. Fills were clean and good. You pay for what you get. -- ferret "He leads me beside quiet waters ICQ 163264 He restores my soul" - Ps 23:2 "Follow, lead or get off the shotline" Make spammers pay... use CruelMail |

However I was suprised about how expensive the prices quoted were, especically as there is suppose to be so much competition in the dock in Cozumel? (OT: Is Cozumel or PDC better to dive?) I assume you mean 18peso to the £1 - as dive costs 600peso £10,800 sounds a bit high! If you been quoted $50 for twin dives, that appears to be one of the better deals, or 10 dives for 2500peso = $23 a dive ($46 twin) Did you manage to negotiate a discount below the quoted prices? With kit hire usually costing $10 a dive it seems to make sense to take regs & bcd (take the rest anyway) and save $100 on ten dives! |

Cozumel has purportedly the better reefs, according to the travel guides. The guys I dived with said they're a much of a muchness. PDC has good, varied reefs plus cenotes close at hand, and you can do the Cozumel reefs from PDC on a day boat anyway. The prices are high because that's what the market will pay. >I assume you mean 18peso to the £1 - as dive costs 600peso £10,800 sounds a >bit high! Heh yeah. It's fine using their kit though. -- ferret "He leads me beside quiet waters ICQ 163264 He restores my soul" - Ps 23:2 "Follow, lead or get off the shotline" Make spammers pay... use CruelMail |

The question is is the cost justified for the quality of the dive? Red Sea looks like a cheaper option! |
