Default Beyond the Blue Magazine

Hi all,

Anyone else pick up a copy of the new magazine Beyond the Blue at the dive
show? It looks very similar to 990 magazine but appears to be a little less
technical orientated.

Seems to be a good magazine but I suppose only time will tell, lets hope it
doesn't go the same way as 990 magazine, take all our subscriptions and do a
runner!

Bugger - is that a definite with 990? I never even got my first
issue...

I just got one of those for the first time last week - came free in the box
with some stuff I ordered. No idea how old it is though, its one of those
"volume number issue number" type magazines with no obvious date anywhere
(Vol 4 Issue 5)

I spoke to Ron Mahoney at the show and he confirmed that he is now ex-editor
of 990. He did not leave on amicable grounds. Since he left there has not
been a publication of 990 magazine. Ron used to own 990 but it was bought
from him some time ago, and it's demise appears not to be Ron's fault.

Ron has set-up a new magazine which looks exactly like 990 called Beyond The
Blue. The new mag is more aimed at adventurous diving rather than hard-core
technical-wreck diving, so lets hope that with a broader audience that this
one survives.

Ron is attempting to get back the name 990 (and some of his owed-salary)
from the current owners of 990. There is a small chance that 990 may
"re-launch" in January - however this seems very unlikely, especially since
the link to 990 advertisers seem to be through Ron, and 990 are unlikely to
get any repeat subscriptions now.

Seems that alot of people are owed money by 990. I've subscribed to the new
mag, so fingers crossed.

Cheers
Matt.

You're bang on there Matt.

It was evident chatting to various individuals around the show that when Ron
left 990 the driving force and the trusted face went with him.

We got rid of a large number of magazines at the show and picked up a lot of
subscriptions too. The biggest response by far though was the suppliers etc
that wanted to advertise and the potential contributors too.

Beyond the Blue intends to build on the strengths of 990 and go that one step
further so we can look forward to something decent dropping through the letter
box on a regular basis again.

Safe diving

Angus

Hi

Does this new magazine have a website. A search on Google turned up
nothing?

Cheers

Jeff,

www.beyondmagazine.co.uk

The website is basic at the moment but will be 100% up and running within the
next ten days. It will have back articles, high quality photography etc once
completed.

It takes a new site a little while to get responses from a seach engine hence a
negative response.

The mag should be in local dive shops (UK & Europe) with 10-14 days.

Belinda,

It will be available in the dive shops pretty soon and it's also available by
subscription.

Because it only has a reasonably small circulation and is a quarterly magazine
WH Smiths etc won't be stocking it.

Let me know if you need the details for subscription.

I understand that there is an agreement with Beaver for distribution via
their exiting network.

Matt.
