| Anyone know what the difference, if any, between the blue capped silicone grease that sea & sea have for their cameras and normal grease is? It would seem I've lost my tube down on my last trip. Neither of the LDS have any and keep trying to flog me ordainary grease saying it's the same thing. I remember reading in the manual it warned not to use other grease as it would gum up the o-ring or something. Any ideas? As a side note, some o-ring greases are specifically designed to make the o-ring material swell slightly, and some are designed specifically not to. For an application where a failure of the o-ring is critical, then I'd either make sure you understand what the tech-spec of the grease requyired is (then go to a bearing and o-ring supplier possibly), or use the "official" product. Obviously your post is because you realise the importance of the "right" grease, but I thought I'd just post this for general interest of those who might think all silicone grease is interchangeable... Just cut from web |

What part of "Any of the above" did you not understand? Nitrile, viton and EPDM are all suitable materials for use with air. Viton and EPDM should be used if they will be exposed to and FO2 > 0.4. In anticipation of your next question, I use o-rings of between 75 and 90 durometers. Iain Iain |

AKA, how DURable they are. usually the higher the durometer rating, the harder and stiffer the substance. rhys |
