I'm not suprised! Netscape 4.7x is ancient and has minimal, in some cases
non existant, support for several important standards. My recommended
upgrade path would be to use Mozilla 1.5, its stable, feature rich, and
tabbed browsing will change your life.

We do not intend to support Netscape 4.7x at any point in the future.

This is probably caused by the missing </table> or </html> tags.
This is not entirely Netscape 4.7's fault: it's only falling over
because someone hasn't followed the standards it does support.

Using a <doctype> declaration and the html validator is your friend.

You might argue that Netscape wasn't being particularly helpful in
dealing with unspecified behaviour, but its not an excuse for wilfully
writing broken html and then complaining when the browser doesn't
know what to do with it.

Anyway, I'm not asking for much: just add the missing tags, a
doctype declaration and fix the broken 'Alt' tag on one of the menu
items and I'll let you off!

Isn't Opera also available on Linux now..? It comes quite highly
recommended..

Okay, I've justed test the Dive List with Netscape 4.78, Mozilla 1.3 and
Internet Explorer 5 all running on Linux (yes, you can run IE5 on Linux,
see http://www.codeweavers.com/). It renders correctly in all of these
browsers.

My poor old HTML 4.01 spec says

Start tag: required, End tag: optional to TD and TR
but Start tag: required, End tag: required to TABLE

Am I out of date again?

*shake head*

Nope, but some versions of Netscape 4.7x and below had real problems if
the </TD> and </TR> tags were absent.

It's on Jason's site. So I guess that you do support Netscape 4.7* on
your site after all I expect he'll be along in a minute.

I don't support Netscape 4. It's an antiquated piece of junk that doesn't
support HTML 4 or CSS. I will have a look and see if there's a missing
</TABLE> tag though. That's about the limit of my support.

Netscape 4's table support is crap at the best of times. It renders
perfectly good table code incorrectly. There are plenty of better options
on Linux. I use Konqueror myself.

BTW closing tags for <TD> and <TR> are optional. And I don't see how
including a DOCTYPE declaration will make any difference.

Thanks very much. It works for me now.

I did look at upgrading my browser quite a while ago but Natwest online
didn't like the newer version so I stuck to the old one. I'll have another
look.
