| After some discusions on the UDDF mailing list a small group of programers, with me included. Have started a small project with the goal of making the ultimate dive log program. We have some nice ideas and are just starting up. If there is any programers out there thaty likes to give input or help out. Please visit the webpage, join the discusions and why not add some code. The aim is to make the project avilibe for almost every computer on the plannet (in one form or an other). And to have the most functionality of all log programs. So if you only have a wish list for a dive log progra, send it to us. Maybe we think it's a good idea and actually make it for you. But I guess that the main driving for is that we think tha programs we have tried so far in one way or another doesn't work for us. Home page at sf is: http://opendiver.sourceforge.net/ Some concept ideas of an interface (made on a Mac is availibe here) http://homepage.mac.com/ebeaule/OD-Browser1.png http://homepage.mac.com/ebeaule/OD-Browser2.png http://homepage.mac.com/ebeaule/OD-Browser3.png http://homepage.mac.com/ebeaule/OD-Browser3.1.png One think that we have in the planning is that it should be possible to populate a database of divesite and other such information availible over the internet from the application. This was discussed here before. However help could be needed. / Balp, Sorry if I walked on any toes, I just like to get the feeling for what more dives likes of there logbook. -- http://anders.arnholm.nu/ Keep on Balping |

Anders, Do you intend to include computer download capabilities as well? It would be useful to be able to download and log in the same package from multiple different computers. I have an aladin (good software) and a nexus (the worst designed piece of software I have ever had the misfortune to purchase!) to be able to include dives logged on either computer would be very useful. Surely it's only spam if it is commercial? I don't think many here would class a pointer to ddplan as spam? There's quite a few software developers on this group and the idea of an open source (will it be open source?) log book designed and developed by divers from all over the world is a good one. Good luck Keith L |

My thoughts exactly. It would be nice if the computer downloading was handled in a modular way - ie. you selected the appropriete 'plug in' to add compatibility to the software for your particular type of computer. I've recently changed over to a VR3 from an Aladin Smart Pro and it would be nice to have a logging program that can handle dive data from the VR3 without having to dump my older Aladin profiles... ...plus, of course, it might convince Delta-P that charging £120 for dive log software is a rip off!!!!!! |

It will be open source, but whet license in not decided yet, the most of the code so far I have contributed and that has been coverd with an MIT license. But maybe in the end evetything does comed out as GPL or something else... / Balp -- http://anders.arnholm.nu/ Keep on Balping |

| Hi, is there any advance on this issue? I lead the project on the CDuce programming language, a language for XML (mainly for *nix: it is included in the main Linux distributions). Since I also am a CMAS ** I wanted to develop some diving program in CDuce. So I first looked at what existed, made a search on UDDF and arrived to this thread. The site OpenDiver looks pretty dead? Do you know of any other project going on? I do no want to do work already done Thanks in advance Beppe |
