Default apeks reg servicing

Just needing my 1st annual service on apeks 1st stage and atx 40 main and
octopus, was thinking of taking them to stoney as i happen to be passing by
there on monday on my way down south, just though i would post this in case
anyone out there had any suggestions or advice to offer.

You can get your regs serviced directly by Apeks. It may not be as
convenient, and you may end up paying a little more (post, packing
etc) but I reckon you can be confident in the quality of the work.

After a bad experience with local "experts" (NOT Stoney) mine will
always go back to Apex.

The first stage only needs a pressure check and a filter change after
one year. The full service is every two years. Make sure wherever
you go they don't sting you there. Apeks sounds like a safe bet,
though.

Nick,

I haven't heard that before, i've always believed that regs should be
fully serviced anually (or 50 dives) do you have a reference for the
above information?

I would have thought that to change the filter you need to dismantle
the majority of the 1st stage, and therefore it is certainly wise to
replace the o rings, and whilst its apart why not clean it aswell?
Your comments don't seem logical to me, but feel free to put me right!

I had all eight of my regs serviced at the start of the year, for the
first time since I bought most of them, I think most of them had done 3
or 400 dives, probably more, and its been _alot_ longer than a year. I
think I've had at least a couple of them for five years and its the first
time the first stages have been in bits.

Regulators are alot more sturdy than most people give them credit for,
almost all dive gear is...

The info is in the FAQ on the Apeks website (www.apeks.co.uk) and,
IIRC, in the manual that is supllied with the regs.

To change the filter on a DS or DST first stage (all I have) you only
need to remove the DIN or A clamp securing bolt/nut. You don't have
to open the body at all.

Yeah, but if Al can get 5 years out of them with no service, then any normal
person should be fine for a lifetime!

..

I make full service twice a year for all my Apeks regs ( 8 pcs) - they work
fine.

You service your regs twice a year? Really? Why?

Al.
