The Penlee boat was engaged in a highly dangerous inshore rescue, it was not JUST at sea. All Weather lifeboats are just that , they are safe to go out in " All Weathers", in the sea that is. FWIW I have been in a Severn Class at 28 knots in a gale 8, excellent boats. -- Steve Barlow |

The Waverney was the first of the fast afloat boats and has been out of service for some years. All of the All Weather boats have enclosed wheel houses these days, the Severn and the Trent even have seats with suspension to make them more comfortable. The Local boat here has taken two bend casualties to the chamber in the last two months. One was quite a serious bend but AIUI both have recovered. Merry Christmas to everyone. Our local boat had to retrieve us about 6 weeks ago :(, but at least we broke down on a sunday morning when they were on excercise anyways. They do look much bigger when you're directly underneath them. How's Craig getting on? - is he back home in Mull? Fi |

Craig is much better now, fully mobile and starting to eat properly. His was the classic accident ashore where the lifeboat or a helicopter should of been used immediately. Isolated island ( North end of Raasay) with serious back and internal injuries. The farce that occured was lucky to leave him walking and alive. Quad bikes and cliff paths do not go together. Here's the Sussex Dive Club on the way into Newhaven after the 'twinset falls over and breaks the oil feed lines and then the oil warning light does not come on to indicate a problem with the fix' incident. We've had a bad year mechanically. nigelH http://www.nigelhewitt.co.uk/stuff/sdctow.jpg |
