Can I throw a rebreather into the equation? I am quite attracted to the FFM with a DSV (or whatever it is ultimately named) but I see very few people using them. Is it a case of availability, cost or other? One of the main things holding me back is that I am not willing to commit the kind of money required until I have tried it out. To date, I have been unable to find someone with this type of set up, let alone someone willing to let me try it out. I think it would be helpful to throw this open to discussion so I can form a more rounded opinion. I think cost comes into it, but its more about CO2 and the implications of coming off loop (ie lose primary breathing and potentially primary vision in one pop). /Z |

Kirby Morgan now have a FFM with a removable lower half so that should you need to switch to OC you dont loose vision but just get a blast of cold water on your face. This mask also has a flexible lower area so that the mouth piece can be held in your mouth like a normal regulator eliminating the dead air space issue. |

The Scubapro also has a mouthpiece that can be held in the mouth eliminating the dead air space, it is affordable too. -- Steve Barlow |
