Default digital camera for underwater?

Hello,

Are there any digital cameras for underwater photography ? how many
meters or feet they can reach? they have connection for external
stronger flash ? what is the lense aperture?

Please tell me what are good models of digital cameras for underwater
photography with and without underwater casing I mean no need of extra
housing for underwater are there any? how deep they can go ?

what about with housing digital cameras? which ones are considered
best?

thanks,

Mario

How much do you want to spend is the question?

A housed camera is probably the best solution in terms of versatility and
bang for the buck. So, first pick out a small handful of digicams that you
like, and then start investigating whether or not they can be used in UW
housings.

One or two places seem to be doing the housing for the Olympus Mju cameras
(300 and 400) for about £60 - so you could probably get a 3mp camera and
housing for £300 or so.

I just got a housing for my wife's A70, we'll be using it for a trip to
Discovery Cove in Sea World. Every button and switch can be accessed with
the housing, and it even has a built-in flash diffuser which I think will
come in very handy. The A70 is a teriffic little digicam, I'm looking
forward to the trip.

An comparatively inexpensive system is the Sealife Reefmaster. Here
are some pictures I took with mine last week (look for the ones marked
"new"): http://www.pathcom.com/~bracuk/underwater/index.htm

Most of the other pages indicate what camera was used to take the
photograph.

I have the 1.3 megapixel version of this camera. They now have a 3.2
megapixel version. One of the other divers on the boat last week was
using one, without a strobe. I was impressed with her results. Must
have a faster lens than mine, because I could not have achieved those
results without a strobe.

As far as how far an underwater camera can reach, it depends on your
depth, the amount of ambient light, the type of lens, and so on and so
forth.
