You need to read 'Downsize this' and 'Stupid white men' for more hilarity!

It amazes me that America spends all it's time being secure, not letting
people in, not letting people out, feeding their citizens crap propaganda
about the rest of the world and trying to create a state where you have no
freedom.

Sounds very simuar to North Korea? The country the US has a problem with at
the moment!

I say that everyone should boycott the US. Leave them to their own devices.
Only a few months and they'll populate mars, and then we can get rid of them
for good

They are good. Managed to get an American friend of ours to read it
once. He went very quiet after that.

Is that the only country Dub Ya has a problem with? Try Libya, Cuba,
Afganistan, Iran, Iraq, France (but who doesn't), the whole of the EU,
etc etc etc.

Nothing wrong with 2nd hand BCD or regs as long as they've been looked
after (and it will be pretty obvious if a set of regs has been
regularly dragged across a car park...). Just make sure you get the
regs serviced before using them, and check the test date on the
cylinder. If less than 6-12 months remaining, get the seller to have
it tested before you part with any cash. Also make sure the valve fits
your regs - you don't want a non-convertible A-valve if you've got DIN
regs.
The only thing you might want to get new is a drysuit. It needs to fit
and you can never be sure that a 2nd hand suit won't leak. I would buy
the suit first, even if it means renting the rest of the gear until
you can buy it.

The order I would follow is suit - regs - BCD - computer - tank.

Cheers Greg,

I've been reading round the web looking at various clubs and so on, one from
which I've met a few people, though not asked nearly enough questions yet,
and sadly looks likely to fold soon, makes the following kit mandatory for
club dives (doesn't necessarily have to be your own):

suit, mask, fins, bcd, main tank and regs, pony bottle and reg as an AAS,
torch(es), (D)SMB, knife.

When I learned (PADI in Cairns, Australia) we did the "standard PADI kit"
which was wetsuit, mask, fins, snorkel, bcd, single tank with 2 second stage
regs. No AAS barring the Octo, and no torch barring on the night dive. The
AAS tank sounds a top idea safety wise to me, and i'm kind of an obsessive
on such things.

Anything there which would seem superflous? or missing from a UK diving
perspective? And would this change the ordering of things to buy at all? Is
it easy enough to rent an AAS pony & regs if needs be?

Cheers

Gavin.

Sea Snips not a Knife.

Keith does a rather nice demo on that!

DSMB.

You'll get some debate about the pony here.

IMHO the first thing would be a dry suit though.

Dive timer or maybe a computer. The knife is a waste of money,
you're better off with a net cutter. Move the torch up the list of
priorities: no point in jumping in if you can't see anything other
than blackness.

May I be the first to tell you that was a bad idea, but fortunately
not too expensive. You look at your buddy to check he is still there
and his vision gets destroyed immediately by the dazzle

Interesting point, and one I had thought about (having been a scout for a
few years, and been often frustrated by being blinded).

I'm hoping to be able to modify it somehow, effectively making it a small &
cheap, but bright, backup torch to sit in a BCD pocket.

Unless my buddy is like one of the guys I got put with in Cairns, in which
case, he deserves all he gets!!!

Gav.
