well Gareth was more concerned about getting the last little drop of
waterout of his mask even though
I signaled out of air took his alternate AND showed him my reg would not
purge. There he was
playing with his mask, I mean it was almost full of air im sure he could see
me but he seemed a little distant.

perhaps i should of pointed to the nice freindly diver just behind him
wanting a better look at his mask !

But in the end every body found it more amusing losing masks and tanks being
turn off. The nearest I got
to see anyone a bit upset was Calum with two extra weight belts not enough
air in his bc and no reg in his mouth.
he said something like" take this splutter splutter splutter weight off me
splutter splutter splutter find my splutter splutter splutter reg" with a
reg in his mouth aleast he could not splutter splutter splutter any more.

David

I still can't decide if the look on his face as he was being brought
to the surface was panic, despair, or just sheer hatred...

Hehehe - there was only one extra weight belt but I believe it was
Martin's - an extra 16kg on my slight frame even with a full BC and suit
like the Michelin man just wasn't enough! One (or more) of those splutters
was a swear word...

I almost lost Greg's kit...

Recevied heavy weight belt, then grabbed his wing. As soon as it was slipped
off I started inflating it, unfortunately the hose pull dump had started
working all ready...

Hmmm... With hindsight I suppose I could have put *some* air in it
before removing it...

I need the freezing cold, and poor viz, to really get the idea of UK diving,
so the guys told me ;)

Make sure and wait until at least two clubs or schools with trainees
complete their dives...

....then go in and see what you can see!!!

This brings up an interesting topic only slightly related to the original.
I use a Halcyon stainless plate and 18 lb lift wing with a PST 100 cubic
foot tank. Somebody once asked me how sure I was that my wing would support
my plate, tanks, regulator set and, when I wear a wetsuit, about 4 lbs of
weight. To this day, I'm not sure of the answer. What I am sure of is that
I'm not going to be tossing my equipment over the side of the boat to be put
on in the water until I'm sure of the answer.

Just out of curiosity, how many divers that have streamlined their equipment
as much as possible, are about as unsure about whether their BCD will
support it if it's released?

What's up Lee, don't you have enough swimming pools in Florida? If it'll
float in fresh, it'll float in salt.

With 18lb you might be pushing it. I tested my 27lb Pioneer and it
happily supports the stainless backplate plus weights I use with it.

This being my first dive in the UK;only about my 6th since qualifying 6
months ago; and first time out in a drysuit, I may well be the one with the
boyancy issues, miss finning everywhere and causing clouds.

I'm hoping not though ;)

Gav.

PS: sorry now if you happen to be in Gildy in the am of Sunday 25th!
