Default Good Service : Vandergraph/Scubapro(Uwatec)

Icebreakers was a good chance to blow the cobwebs out (for me anyway), the
trouble being all that kit that needed attention. Still a few bits to sort
but a couple of examples of what customer service should be like IMHO -

Vandergraph : The O2 analyser wouldn't calibrate, very low figures given.
Phoned Vandergraph who thought it was the cell but said "if it's not - send
it back and we'll fix it" (the analyser is several years old!). Phoned them
Thursday midday, brand new cell came through my letterbox Friday morning!
Cost - just over £50.

ScubaPro : Hooked up the Aladin Pro Nitrox to the new PC serial interface,
switched it on, "Err" in the bottom left corner. Again this unit is a
several years old, never had a new battery, it was around 60% when I last
checked. Phoned Uwatec - "probably battery, send it in". So I packaged it
up, posted it Saturday. It was back with me Thursday, fixed with a 99%
battery life. Cost £41.50.

So two very good examples of after sales service. Both on "old" equipment
long out of guarantee, both at a reasonable price, both with super fast
known cost service.

Citizen haven't even bothered to estimate how much my watch will cost yet...

Oddly enough - just before Christmas my own Aladin Pro Nx died, took it
to the LDS, they sent it off for me, £41.50, fixed good as new and 99%.

Cheers to ScubaPro, and cheers to Edinburgh Dive Centre for not charging
me a ridiculous amount over the top.

Ben

LDS quoted me £60. Was this for a sealed model, or one with a
removeable hatch?

That was for the old original Aladin Pro Nitrox, there was a "replacement
battery cover" on the worksheet so I assume it's not the sealed model. The
original 'tested' date on the side is 11.96, I got it early '97 - so it's
done six years (a couple of hundred dives) with no problems.

You're obviously living on borrowed time Pete - mine was around the 50 ish %
(I think) when it died, although it may have been "provoked" by having a
memo mouse thrust upon it Mine is the older angular blue model, the one
before the current Smart, there's a picture of one on
http://www.dddive.com/consoles.htm

Yeah, mine looks just like that but it's sealed. The really old models
(before the Pro Nitrox came out) used to have a door on the battery
compartment, and I guess they went back to this after my sealed
one was made.
