Default Digital Camera and Housing recommendations

I'm going on a diving holiday in March and would like to buy a digital
camera and housing for the trip. My budget is probably about $500. Can
anybody recommend a good combination?

Hello Sys,

What a lovely name! Does it run in the family?

I bought a Canon Powershot A70 and housing - see
http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/underwater.htm#LabelA70 for details. The
controls are easy to manipulate if you're not wearing gloves but I reckon
they might be slightly tricker if you've got gloves on, so be aware of that
if you plan to do a lot of cold-water diving.

I've only used it once: I took a couple of dozen shots at the NDC and half a
dozen were worth looking at - not too bad for a first attempt, I thought.
Go to http://www.lacchin.co.uk if you've got nothing better to do.

You're in a UK NG. Did you mean 500 US dollars or 500 UK pounds? Plan to
spend approx £250 for the camera and £140 for the housing _in_the_UK_.

Hope this helps,
R.

i recommend you increase your budget. a decent housing, alone, will set
you back $550.

Hi Tricky,
I've been trying to decide on which camera etc to get for some time. Do you
or someone
you know own theC4000, I was thinking of the C750 but I've read reports that
their
operation in low light is not up to standard. The C5050 is just too much
what with the
housing and a 512M D card. Any comments on the above set up would help as
it's certainly
a budget deal now.
Cheers
Richard

Yep, I own a c4000 & pt010 housing, have had it about a year now. Very
pleased with the results.
You can easily use it as a point & shoot, or switch over to manual mode for
control of everything (aperture, speed etc). Budget on top for a digital
strobe with slave trigger.

Cannon Power shot A40 plus housing, and you might get a bit of change. Where
are you planning to dive?
