| Hi, After much pi$$ing around on my part, my web page is up & running (many thanks to Gordon H for his patience!!) http://www.scubadive.me.uk/index.htm It's a bit basic at the moment as it's only a frontpage '98 site at the moment, still working on getting a decent program for compiling it properly. Any feedback appreciated Nige |

Not to mention that you will very quickly get to the bandwidth limit on the account when everyone keeps downloading it. If you feel the need to have that image, stick it in an editor and reduce the resolution and colour depth to make it a sensible size! I will let you know any more as and when I get a chance to look round it. HTH Danny -- The box said windows 98 or better, so I installed Linux Header is false, correct is Danny at danshome dot org |

Also noticed that like so many other people you have decided to tell people that all content is copyrighted to you etc etc. You don't need to do this as Copyright is automatic, in the UK at least, and in any case your statement would not stop anyone who wanted to rip you off anyway. | > Thanks Danny, > > The home image has now bee considerably shrunk in size Can I make a techincal point? Apologies if I sound whingey. I feel the need to ask why you want that as an image anyhow? You're limiting your audience somewhat, people using text based browsers will see, instead of your home image, "copy of barraedit.gif" (i know cos I was using Links when i firsk clicked!). In addition, anyone with a visual disibiilty, using a web reader will get, vocally "copy of baraedit.gif" read out to them, if anything. You'd be better setting real HTML text over the image as opposed to embedding it into the image, or if you must do it this way, use an ALT tag to get your text there for people "sans graphics". Quickly clicking through, the rest of the site is dealt with OK in Links, so would probably work out of in web readers too. Regards, Gavin. |

Intellectual Copyright is primarily guided by international standards that were agreed upon by a number of countries, including Britain and the US at various conventions (I forget which, sorry). Guidelines on intellectual copyright are best explained in the rules set down in the US Code, as they are generally the same globally and are explained succinctly. The US Code says that you must have a "prominent copyright disclaimer" if you wish to assert intellectual copyright over written material, which would include websites. An example of this being applied to the UK can be found in the 1988 Copyright, Designs and Patents Act. Of course even when you do assert copyright over a website, people can still use stuff from it under the Fair Use Clause, but at least they are limited to what they use if you do reserve your rights of copyright. Probably be told I'm totally wrong in all this, but I got around Warner Bros lawyers so I'm pretty sure I'm on safe ground Rob F. |

I guess I ought to have the courage to put mine up for public scrutiny, with the usual excuses about pressure of time and work, etc! Also on "Release 1.0", very much a work in progress with lots of spaces where I'll be adding content "soon". I'm particularly keen to know whether any of the scripts fall over, especially on non-Microsoft platforms... R. http://www.lacchin.co.uk/ |

The "Scuba Diving" page has the left-hand edge chopped off - the floating menu covers some of the text and leftmost image The "login" page sent me somewhere strange and unimplemented. The floating menu doesn't float properly - the bottom bits are frequently off-screen. The behaviour of this seems to vary with page length... Other than that, it seems to work I'm using Mozilla 1.0.2. HTH Vic. -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG |

As for the blind reading it....... well...... its a visual medium |

First, in several places you've used "blue underlined" (or indeed green underlined) text as some form of subheading. Best not to. This is the default "link" format - so people are accustomed (as I did) to frantically try to click on it. In general, underlining on websites is best avoided... Second, I feel there's also some sort of logical confusion as to where navigation lives. Sometimes it's across the top, sometimes up the side, and sometimes it feels like the respective roles are different. Best stick to one model - if that makes any sense (it's late...). A clear "home page" link is also desirable. Cheers! -- David Pearson |
