When I was in France a few years back, they had something by the name of
"Pschitt". They couldn't understand why the Brits cracked up as they
passed advertising hoardings...

I use this handle/nick in plenty of groups---it is a given nickname by
folks i know-even going back to CB radio days--i collect Budweiser limited
edition promotional items---whats in a nick/handle anyway?
I wish to thank Lee Bell for changing, what was a usefull dialogue ,into a
joke.

If you want to talk beer --no problem---but i cannot see how this is valid
to my original question. For what its worth Bud on draft or the bottle is 5%
ABV in the UK ----take it is too strong for you then Lee? or are you one of
these real ale folks that have leather patches on thier jumpers/jackets?

For those that have bothered to read past this---i do appreciate your
comments and suggestions,i am no newbie diver, just trying to make sure i
have the correct kit for diving here----is that too much to ask?---once i
have learnt to fly the drysuit i could be at a water near you!!--You all may
consider drysuit diving the norm---whole new ball game for me.

Straight question for all of you:-
We all dive, some more than others, some are more technical based than
others, some just dive for the fun,we all have the same agenda--we visit
inner space-----------it is a place that only a small percentage of people
can actually visit, let alone the fact that scuba equipment is a brand new
and recent concept---more akin to space suits (think of the zip on your
drysuit)
Why is there the bitch between agency this or that?--i see the concept of
(dare i say it) DIR, which advocates redundancy and streamlining, and
honestly it can not be argued against, from what i have read and percieve.

We all dive, some better than others--when you become an expert (if that is
possible), why not give constructive and helpfull advice to others?
This is already an "elitists" hobby, if only by the amount of people that
have been trained, and after the holiday fun, carry on.

I look forward to diving my own countries waters in the near future, with or
without "acceptance" by various people in this news group

The thread was about done by then. You knew what we thought
you needed and the only other thing you want is time in the water.
Have a good year.

There isn't. Most of us are multi-agency, and we all get along just
fine.

Then you haven't read very much. There is quite a bit about DIR to be
argued against - and many of us have argued it in the past. It's in the
archives...

That happens. You had the helpful advice. Would it somehow have been
better or more valid if there had been a thousand "me too" posts
following it?

WTF has "acceptance" got to do with anything? We just made a few cracks
about silly names for drinks. If you see that as a personal dig at you,
then you would appear to have things to talk about with professionals
elsewhere...

There is a convention (not followed by everyone) that red DSMB means
you're fine, a Yellow one means there's a problem of some kind.

If you are serious about UK diving you need an SMB and reel. There has been

I could not follow Calum reasons for buying a yellow self inflating smb
unless
he was then going to swap it over with his red one and keep the yellow for
using as an alert / problem marker.
im sure he will be along soon to explain.

on a side note Calum I managed to collect another picture id on the rescue
course
but it was not diving but driving . speed camra in Birdham just before
wittering ;-(

I'm going to make some assumptions here, primarily that we're not talking
about a SMB, but a DSMB. In other words, we're talking about something that
is carried during the dive and deployed prior to surfacing. The red DSMB is
the standard, providing both a signal as to the location of the diver and a
line to the surface to facilitate the ascent and any decompression stops
along the way. The yellow DSMB, by convention rather than rule, is an alert
that something is not right and that assistance is desired.
