Default "Beyond the Blue"

Anyone know whether the successor to 9-90 has made it's first appearance
yet?

Iain,

Beyond the Blue made an appearance at the Brum Dive Show, rushed into
production to make sure it made it.

Edition two will be out prior to the LiDs and will be available at the show.
I've seen the artwork and layout and it's even more immpressive so I think it
will go down well.

Erm... isn't the whole thing still under the banner of Stenmar? You know,
the ones with the receivers in....

Beyond the Blue has bugger all to do with Stenmar other than the ex-editor of
9-90 being the editor of Beyond the Blue.

Still not seen this magazine, but after being burnt on my 9>90
subscription, I'm in no hurry to subscribe to all but a major dive
magazine... and I don't fancy doing that, because they don't really
interest me any more..

But will it be available anywhere else?

Keith

....and while we are at it. Has anyone who signed up for the free first
issue actually received it yet? I signed up via Leigh Bishop's website
(http://www.deepimage.co.uk) but have received nothing. I find it amazing
that a new magazine seems to have been launced with virtually no promotion
i.e. website, posts to dive related websites/newsgroups, mail shots to the
database of previous (burnt fingered) 990 subscribers etc etc.

Regards
AC

Yeup - mine arrived (I filled out a form at http://www.ukdiving.co.uk)
in good time. I thought it showed promise, and I used to really like
990, originally edited by the same guy, so I thought I would punt for a
subscription, hoping that it would help then get off the ground.

I was told they were giving out gobs of them at the diveshow in Birmingham.

> i.e. website, posts to dive related websites/newsgroups,

Their website is www.beyondmagazine.co.uk

They have an offer on Leigh Bishop's site (as you know) and ukdiving.

Relevant UKRS post is archived at

Why would a magazine give it's mailing list to a competitor? Isn't this
covered by the Data Protection Act?

I'm not really sure how much more they could do - they're hardly likely
to get an advert in dive or diver are they?

Which still has a Coming Soon in November front page and no other
significant content

Sorry but it sounds like its going to be exactly like the early days
of 9-90, sporadic publishing, poor organisation, highly variable
content. If its stocked by my LDS (W H Smiths will not touch it) then
I will probably buy it when I see it, there is no way I'm handing over
my money up front again
