Default Wetsuit thickness

Hi there

I am going on a 2 week diving holiday in the Red Sea from the 9 of april.

Last year in the beginning of March i was diving there with my 7mm wetsuit,
and it was sort of okay, close to becoming to warm.

What would you suggest i should take with me for this holiday in April ?

I thought about either a fullbody 3mm wetsuit with a 3mm shortie, or a 5mm
fullbody wetsuit.

Hope someone has a little experience.

I would take a 7mm, just to be sure.

a full exposure suit 7mm would be recommended.
2 weeks, probably multiple dives a day will get frizzy..
water would be 'round 23 degrees celcius now

Michel

Just got back from a week in Sharm and used a 3mm Oceanic with Titanium
lining for 15 dives over 6 days and only felt cold on one of them - the very
last. Others were moaning after every dive wearing 5 & 7mm full length
suits, and one guy who was wearing a 7mm semidry. What a bunch of wimps!
(I do have a blue whale sized blubber layer though!)

Its very very difficult to say, people are so different! We were there in
December, someone was diving in a 3mm shortie all week and didn't feel the
cold, someone else spent most of the week in a 7+7 semidry, only a couple of
times daring to try just one of them. Personally, I used 3 long + 3 shortie
and only started to get a bit cold on the night dives after already having
done 3 long dives during the day.

From what you've got, may be worth taking the 5mm and the 3mm shortie, then
you get the choice and can mix and match what you think you'll need.

I did a week at the beginning of january using a 3mm shortie, NP the
water was ~23C and the air a similar temperature. Even on the night
dive I can't say I noticed any difference.

Yeah, exactly! So many people are so different.
About the night dives, it wasn't colder because it was night, it just felt
colder because it was the fourth dive in the day and we'd already cooled
down over the other dives.

Was there last April and had a 5mm full suit and was fine. Everyone else was
wearing hoods and moaning about the cold. I'm not large either so no
insulation. Take something that fits and you should stay warm, then go sit
in the sun.

I'm not gonna bother telling you what I would wear in april, because as others
have rightly said, everyone's different. What I would say is that the water
temp will prob not be much different in the beginning of April to the beginning
of March. At best it may be 2o/c warmer, but it won't feel much different to
be honest. The air temp will be a bit warmer, but not warm enough to preclude
wearing a 7mm. I would suggest that you will be comfortable diving with the
same suit you wore last year in March.

On another quick note, ignore those people who would tell you you're a "wimp"
for wearing a 7mm (I'm not having a dig, I know people were only joking! ),
at the end of the day it's about keeping warm so you can enjoy the dive, not
proving how little thermal insulation you need! Plus the winners of the "i
dive in a 3mm year round in the UK" competition are usually fat b*stards
anyway, so it's no great victory!

OI.
We've got to win something.
