Engraver, and then paint over the top with boat paint and wipe off the
excess, only that in the engraved lines will stick, and being below the
surface, will last for a long time.

Great. Got one.
Now I've just got to waterproof the bugger.
Anyone got a good price on Duracells by the hundreds?
LOL, thanks!

Personally, I don't like scrawling my name in huge letters all over
everything I own. I go for a small, slightly stylised D (my initial) in a
couple of places on the thing. For example, my fins have one on the front
of the blade, where its easy to see but could potentially be rubbed off,
with another market at the far end of the foot pockets, hidden away a bit
and so won't rub off.

I suppose it depends why you want to mark them in the first place. If you
know loads of other people with the same kit, then something fairly big and
obvious would be useful. If you know one or two people with the kit, where
it might get mixed up but is unlikely, then something small and unobtrrusive
is fine - if you need to check, its still easy to do. If you are worried
about it being stolen and want to be able to identify it, then you need to
either melt your name into the plastic, or if you don't want to do that i
think my putting small marks in very odd places is a reasonably good idea -
if you suspect then may be yours, its very easy to check and they would
unlikely have noticed.

David

...........Painting your name all over your kit doesn't half knock the
secondhand value when you want something else.

Undersuit is personalised with body odour. Dry suit is flourescent orange.
Fins are XL cressi frog (find one longer). Gloves have holes in them. Tend
to use special algae culture in mask. Regs are problem - usually on a dive
day I'll tell a story of how I always vomit through them on the first dive.
Also explain when diving in a wet suit that every time you hit the water the
urge to urinate is overwhelming.

Stick to these rules and nobody will ever accidentally borrow your kit.

Burp!

I tend to use a combination of the following:

1) Have gear thats heavier than anyone else. Trying to watch someone run off with
twin twelves is aways entertaining.

2) Have gear thats completely sh*gged. If its covered in scratches, boat paint, tar, etc
then most people won't go near it.

3) Be build like a brick outhouse. It helps with point 1) and acts as a deterrent.

*grin*

Nick
