Yes: It beats getting a tattoo under your arm!

> What information would you put on there?

Name
Nationality
Passport Number
Blood Group
Allergies:
Diver; Do not administer Nigrogen

The first three items identify you and give acccess to medical records,
address etc..
The next are medical elements that can be of immediate benefit to any
medical personnel that come to your aid.

How about asking that diving doctor in the magazines for his opinion?

A company called Medic-Alert have such an identity card. Meant to be carried in
the pocket or purse, a bracelet or necklet (not for the fashion conscious) with
name, key words and a serial No should be worn all the time (unless you get a
"feeling" when the Grim Reaper is dropping by to practice). These are
recognised internationally.

It's primary use is by people with hidden disabilities or allergies. The card
carries the persons name, DOB, NOK, some relevant info such as- I'm a scuba
diver, etc, etc. The serial No and Medic Alert phone No are also on the card
(and necklet).

They hold more personal information on their data base, to which you can
elaborate by mentioning precautions or possibility of DCI manifesting itself
away from dive sites.
You can have your info on the database updated when necessary.

This comes at a small annual subscription.

Who was the surgeon having trouble convincing PADI you were competent at first
aid?......How's your CPR course going? ;o)......Are these things taken
seriously by medical professionals and what would be useful info to include?

For traveling divers, one that had certification information might be nice
to have. Only once have I gone someplace I had time and inclination to
dive, but not card. Ever since, I have a copy of all my cards with me all
the time. A dogtag kind of thing with the same information would be handy.
If it had blood type, emergency contact and reference to any special medical
concerns on the back, so much the better.
