| ....holding out on buying a new reg until the new Euro-peon DIN Nitrox standard regs come out, or is opinion that changing over an existing reg is going to be relatively easy? |

Is there any evidence other than gossip and fluster that the new standard is going to actually come out? The last (admittedly gossip and fluster) that I heard was that it was only on the table as a consideration. Cheers, Ben -- Ben Panter, Edinburgh My name (no spaces)@bigfoot which is a com. |

There's something in this month's Diver mag about it that claims that the new standards are due to be introduced in 2005. I'd certainly like to know what the situation will be for existing tanks and regs - will they need to be changed, or will shops still be able to fill tanks with the current DIN valves? Anyone know? - Keith |

The last (admittedly gossip and > fluster) that I heard was that it was only on the table as a consideration. The standard itself was published last March: BS EN 144-3:2003 Respiratory protective devices -- Gas cylinder valves. Part 3: Outlet connections for diving gases Nitrox and oxygen. The standard recommends a 5 year transitional period to phase in the new valves. Standards are not necessarily a legal requirement, but there is new legislation in the pipeline to enact the Transportable Pressure Equipment Directive, which will refer to this and other standards. The implementation date of this Directive for certain types of TPE, including diving cylinders, has been deferred to 1st July 2005. I suppose SITA/IDEST will recommend how dive shops should deal with the new standards. Phil S. |

And I suppose it will end up costing as much as possible. Thanks for the info Phil -- Ben Panter, Edinburgh My name (no spaces)@bigfoot which is a com. |

Go to the latest issue of Diver, page 95 (the 1st place I heard of these regs.) the pic of that silly adaptor screwed into the side of an MDE pillar valve meant for manifolding looks a little suspicious to me. Now close the magazine. Look at the cover. What month is it's publication date? Unless someone knows otherwise?? |

Unfortunately not; I've seen and touched one.... I'm sure there is a market for it, the rep kept telling me there was as I rolled about on the floor in laughter...
