| Thanks all for the book recommendations - there are a few there I'll get no doubt. I've been having a bit of a think - stop sniggering at the back - and I reckon the Scylla trip has to be done and done soon. The reasons are:- 1. By diving Scylla now before she gets colonised will give a tremendous "wow-factor" when she is dived next year/the year after/whenever 2. I'm heading offski back up to Scotland soon and would like to do some diving with the more southerly UKRSers while I can. So I propose either the 1st/2nd May (dubious - bank holiday and all?) or the 8th/9th. I haven't organised a "proper" trip before, just the rescue diver course, so any help from the regulars would be greatly appreciated, as would contact details of reliable operators in the region who I can get in touch with to see what is possible, and of course names of those who would be interested (thanks to those who have already expressed interest). Answers on an email etc. etc. CAS -- Temperature @ Stoney? Find it or share it @ http://stoneytemps.calumscott.me.uk/ "The measure of a man's wealth is the fewness of his wants" - Jack Mullholand |

| Just a little query about the Scylla - just watched the little video of its sinking. Its supposed to have been all carefully prepared, with all the sharp edges removed, holes put in specific areas to get inside, etc. The explosions when watching the video seemed very big though - won't that have put more holes in, with sharp edges and stuff? I'm sure its all as they expected, just don't get how they blew big holes in it without creating the sharp edges they spent months getting rid of.... :O\ David |

I watched the "proper" documentary shown on BBC-SW and although they have taken stuff out (walls, stairs, doors etc.) they haven't done much in the way of sharp edge removal. The cleaning process was mainly to make ingress and (especially) egress easier, to remove entanglement risks and most importantly to remove polutants. CAS |

| I've only seen stills from the video, but it looks like a bunch of pyrotechnic 'explosions' on the deck as well as couple of smaller explosions below decks to scuttle it. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't expect big fireballs like that from a couple of small demolition charges below the water line. Just my evening thoughts, Keith. They did mention that some were just fireworks, not actually part of the sinking, although I was thinking a few little things flying away (like traditional firework rockets) were those, and the big explosions were part of the sinking. Makes sense now though, thinking about it! Cheers! David |
