Default Re: any thoughts on this choice of UK diving kit!!??

hello all
hope the year is being kind to you all!!
I have just sourced and ordered a complete diving system for myself,
after bundles of research and tests!!
Thought it might be a good idea to list my kit and listen to any
advice...good or bad regarding my selection!!!
Thoughts on compatability and personal experiences very warmly
received!!
Otterskin membrane drysuit
Weezle Extreme undersuit
Fourth Element Xerotherm undies!
Faber/Northern Diver 12L 232bar & 3L(pony) 232bar DIN capable tanks
Aqualung/Seaquest Pro QD+ BC
Aqualung Legend LX Supreme 1st & 2nd stage (DIN)
Legend LX Octopus (DIN)
Tusa SCA-330 triple-gauge (compass, depth, pressure)
Aqualung Calypso 1st & 2nd stage (pony). (DIN)
Single gauge on hose for pony
Suunto Stinger dive computer
Suunto Divemanager PC interface for Stinger.
So there it is!!!!
I have been diving 6 or 7 years and am sick of hiring kit!!!
I am trained to rescue level and am doing my IANTD basic deep & Nitrox
course in the Scillies in May. all of my training and most of my diving
is in the UK in a drysuit, although as a cameraman I am getting more and
more u/water work and that means some travel so my kit needs to be
somewhat flexible!!
Anyways thanks for listening and look forward to maybe abit of chat
about it!!!

Take the Compass off of the console. It'll get knackered banging into
things.

That said we've had this argument before.

I find it quite easy on a wrist strap.

Some swear by consoles, some about them.

Just my 2p

You say later on that you're going to be doing IANTD courses. What sort of
diving do you see yourself doing in the near future? Because if you think
you're going to be doing much in the way of deco, say 5+ mins of stops, a
pony probably isn't enough to get you out of trouble. So you should be
thinking about getting a twinset.

On the BCD front, I much prefer wing. I use a backplate and wing for my
twinset and a Dive Rite Transpac + travel wing when diving a single. One
advantage is that it keeps your chest area clear. This is particularly
nice if you've got a bulky camera plus strobe with you as I did last week.

A pony bottle isn't going to last very long at 39m. 39m *is* deep.

point taken, not easy to be clear & succinct in this shorthand form! As
I say i am at the moment just moving slowly and steadilly through my
scuba world, filling up with helpfull pointers like your own! I do not
plan to make dives of 39 metres or so a very regular habit.... not just
yet anyway.
thanks again

Err, yes, but the "few" times you do dive that deep, what are you going to
say. "Oh nothing is going to go wrong this time because I dont' dive deep
often"...? If you are diving to that depth you need the correct kit. A 3L
pony is insufficient bailout for diving past the low 30m range.

no what i will do is take the training i will learn on this course and
the experience & advice of the instructors & fellow divers to heart
applying this new knowledge to my future diving and dive appropriately
with the appropriate kit for that particular dive (dive within your
limits, plan your dive, dive your plan), whether that means after the
course, (which by the way will have any extra kit that is recommended
for this particular sort of diving supplied and trained in the use of),
i decide to futher invest in twins & wings then i accept fullty those
costs and implications, having already ordered kit with the
specification that twinset is going to be a likely option in the future
so as to prepare that kit in some way for the future.
by the way i NEVER say "oh nothing is going to go wrong this time".....
EVER!
I think i am sensible enough to always strive to use the correct kit and
NEVER take chances on anything when it comes to my or anothers safety.
When i do the course as i say i will apply skills learnt not only to my
diving but also to the equipment i use for that purpose.
at the moment i was hoping for a little feeback on the actual equipment
i listed, such as reliability and reg choice etc.
thanks for the comment though, any kit suggestions greatfully received.

If you're going to be diving in the UK there's a few things missing from
your list that you might want to consider.

- a reel and DSMB. Pretty much essential in the UK really.

- a good primary torch and a secondary (backup) one.

I'd go with Keith on that. Diving a big boat or just going in off the
club RIB coming up on a blob beats doing an open water ascent
and planning on finding your way back to the shot wastes half
the dive.

ditto. Torches don't have to be anything special but you want
a burn time equal to the whole dive just incase it's black down
there.

thanks guys!
i have discussed this with my instructor and they are going to take a
small selection of reels & DSMB's and torches so i can get a feel of
which one suits me, then when i return i can invest some more hard
earned dosh in something that i have at least had some expeience of!!
thanks again
p.s.... any personal torch or reel recommendations!! Cheers
