Default Kirkby Lonsdale - Devil's Bridge

Hi Guys,

Planning to dive Devil's Bridge this weekend - anybody know whether
they are still implementing the dive only on Sundays rule, or if we're
allowed to dive at all this month?

I've had a good look on the web and found nothing particularlly clear
one way or the other...

Cheers,

Ben

PS: Devil's Bridge == Kirkby Lonsdale

Done several dives on different days in different months (its a good mapping
site).

Never ever been stopped or confronted about diving there. Having said that,
I'd like to see somebody try and stop you from diving, what are they going
to do? Send the local parish church warden in the water after you, in his
wellies? I dont think so. I dont even think the parish council would even
consider the expense of a trespassing charge for fear of losing costs etc.

On a more complying note, IMHO the most public friendly time to dive would
be a weekday, which is when the place is quiet and families are not standing
aghast in the middle of the road whilst holding conversations with you
standing shoulder witdth apart in your boxers with one leg in an undersuit,
asking a million and one questions, like what is there to see down there?
How much does scuba diving cost? Are you oxygen tanks heavy? I know
somebody who died whilst underwater, does it not scare you? What's the knife
for? The answer to all questions is always "not very much".

The best thing about going on a Sunday is the fact that you get to look
quite normal whilst wearing a dry suit walking through the large selection
of two wheeled vehicles whilst eating a cardboard burger. Its then time for
you to ask questions - my mate got killed on a motorbike, does it not scare
you? Does it not bother you that the busies are always after bikes on
sunday? what does that speedo do? what do those silly little ear things
stuck to your helmet do? - the answer to all is "not very much".

To answer your questions just go and dive - if anybody complains, just point
out the fact that you aren't costing the taxpayers any money, unlike the
bikers, you cause no fuss, unlike the bikers, your activity is relatively
quiet, unlike the bikers, and if all that fails, just ask them would you
like fresh salmon for dinner tonight?

Thanks for the advice - I'll pop down and give it a go then.

Err, ask you politely not to? Failing that, call the police?

The River Lune is a salmon river, so fishing is likely to be taking place on
any day except Sunday. If you try to dive at the wrong time, you might find
the water bailiffs somewhat more robust in their approach than a church
warden! Please do not give divers a bad name.

In the end we decided to stay in bed a bit longer on Saturday morning -
and just used the trip South to drop off my suit for a <shudder> new zip
and seals </shudder> at otter. We went along to have a look at the site
(and the bikes) Sunday and the sign is quite clear so I think the
restrictions are still in place.

Looking forward to diving it in the summer though.

Ben

PS: Just in case anyone googles in the future, the times allowed are
Sundays only in July and August, and on any day during November - January.
