Lynsey,

The swiveling screen is set facing towards you in the housing, you don't
get the option of twisting it round when using the housing. It just sits
in its little hole on the back of the camera. Thats not very technical
sounding I know, but couldn't think of a better way of putting it! :D

Set flat, and a lot of housings have a rubber hood over the lcd so you
can still see it in bright conditions

Funnily enough, the guy that makes the digital adaptors that you recommended
forwarded me this link...

http://www.mike-dive.de/Projekte/OLYPT20.html

Looks like it attatches directly to the Olympus connector so it could be the
answer to all our problems! What do you reckon?

I know. I noticed it yesterday.

Well if I were you, I'd go for it. I'm not sure I can justify spending the
money again. The other system works well enough. I just have to make sure
it's all aligned in the first couple of minutes of the dive.

Yes, I think I probably will but at the moment I'm a little unsure about
exactly what is required to use this device with the 8080. Using Babel Fish
to translate, I get the impression that it requires some modification to the
Olympus PT20 connector on the enclosure which I'm not entirely happy with.
Anyone in here speak fluent German and fancy doing a bit of translation?

I am not bad at German, but this might answer your question;

Wichtig : der Umbau ist nicht reversiebel

= Important, this change is irreversible.

From the price list, it looks like it is a service that he offers as well as
selling the gear.

I haven't got time right now to follow it properly through, and some of the
specialist language will beat me, so I might not be much help.

Keith

Cheers for giving it a quick scan, though, Keith!

He says there are two versions of the connector, an old one and a new,
improved one. the thread on the old one is slightly too large for his
device and apparently tends to jam sometimes, making it impossible to
unscrew whatever is screwed in. from the site:

"if you have a socket that looks like the one pictured below (first
image on the page) everything is fine, that is the 'good' one, but if
it is missing the red dots at the base it is the 'bad' one and will
eventually break unless you carefully clean and grease it after every
dive."

The modification he describes is to replace the old one with a new
style one.

HTH,

Marc
