I guess it depends on what you want to do underwater......i use HL that
burn around 4.5K they are a little "warm" for video work but work well
without red filter.......

HL ? which light is that , The main reason for trying to find out which bulb
is
best at cutting through the cr*p in the water. If there is any stuff in the
water video
will be pretty poor. unless you are recording some new finds for a record of
how it was
positioned.

How long does the bulbs last.

I certainly get pretty good results.

Indefinitely, I'm told.........the good thing about the HL lights is that
you can switch them on and the light is instant.....no warming up, switch
off and on as you like underwater, no waiting time.......and the light is
extremely good.....at night it lights everything up like daylight.

Dave I don't, My plan was to build a canister type torch with a MR16 bulb
the canister is causing some concern as it is a Drum from a photo copier. it
is coated with
something that maybe very toxic. so I was looking at all my options for the
torch head.
while I decide what to do with the drum.
