Default Rescue course

Hi there,
I'm just about to start the PADI Rescue Diver course and was wondering if
someone could tell me if it contains much swimming (ie not in dive kit)
rescue or any tests of swimming strength and stamina? I'm going to be going
for a life-guard qualification and wondered if I could offset some of that
if I've got th RD qualification.

Also, is there a list of recognised CPR courses to take the place of the
MFA/EFR course. I've got a valid CPR qualification and don't really want to
spend out on another one if mine is accepted.

Cheers,
Al

Think we had to do a tired diver tow for about 200 metres, but that was
about it

Yup, across Horsea Island, timed, against Jan "the man" Van Der Horst...

....anyway, why would you want to go on a course and mark yourself out by not
taking part in all the exercises and skills? Go do the course - do ALL the
course, its a laugh.

PS. I would have thought more lifesaving/rescuing practise would be a good
thing, no?

which cpr course do you have. Maybe someone can tell if yours is still ok.
PADI
where changing the system when we did our rescue course so a CPR
Qualification became out of date sooner than you would expect, from 4 years
to 2 I think.

but the Rescue course is still the best course I have done and the one where
I learnt most
probably because of the instructor being so good. But I wont mention Jan
from Wittering divers in Wittering because people might think its an advert
for a good local diving shop.

Isn't that the question though- is his CPR course sanctioned by PADI? I've
got a CPR qualification that I did in October but I have no idea whether it
is ok to allow me to skip the MFA section of the rescue course.
Is there somewhere that will list the sanctioned courses or is it up to the
instructor?

As long as the CPR course is ran within the The "Resuscitation Guidelines
that should dothey only want CPR not first aidso any basic life support
course should do.

This is determined by PADI. The instructor has no say in it at all.
In fact, your instructor, if in doubt, should check with PADI if you require
additional training or complete EFR.
PADI Standards, however, only require a CPR program completed within last 24
months, EFR is recommended..... not required, so according to standards.....
you should do fine with your training.

I've just spoken to PADI UK training who've confirmed that any red Cross
/ St Johns First Aid COurse qualification is and I quote.
"More than adequate" to meet the requirements of the CPR / AV standards
needed for teh Rescue or DM / Inst courses.
