Default Sign Language

Is there any kind of *extended* sign language, above and beyond what they teach
novices like me? The wife and I have decided that we need additional signs for
particular items of wildlife interest that we just caught a glimpse of, like,
"Crab"
"Jellyfish",
plus other, more abstract concepts, like,
"I'm having a really good laugh at your expense; the way that octopus made you
jump was really funny."

Yeps, there are afew for wildlife, usually when you go someplace
warm, and DM will introduce you to the local dialect. Some that we
picked up:

- V-fingers as for "victory" --> lobster
- palms placed one on top of the other, thumbs wigging --> turtle
- fingers and thumb making "open close" movement --> moray eel
- fingers to and from mouth as though you were smoking a joint --> stonefish
- one hand above head (dorsal fin like) --> shark
- one leg up curled up, hands as though riding a horse --> sea horse

In Turkey, if you show the DM a sign that you are out of air, (s)he
might ask with three signs: fingers up in "V" (Visa), three fingers down
(as in letter "M" -- Mastercard), or "cash" sign.

Ofcourse, there are also the extra ones from Suunto advertizements,
eg. "use suunto" ;)

/Marcin

No not you, it was Jamie wasn't it... First descent onto Scylla, us waiting
on deck, big smile as he came down the line, me, point to big purple jelly,
Jamie attempting to reverse away from said big purple jelly....

Particularly liked the hand signal for a Great White Shark...

"Make the shark sign with wide eyed staring and heavy breathing"

Shouldn't they also add 'fill pants' to the description?

But not the ones that really come in handy for people diving with Suuntos,
like "if you've really got all that deco to do, you're doing it on your
own".

But of course unless you review the signs prior to the dive do not
expect others to understand.
