Default Servicing my reg in London

Hi all,

A recent transplant to the UK, I am planning a trip to the northern
Red Sea (Eilat, Aqaba, Dahab). I haven't serviced my reg for a little
more than a year so I just called the local dive shop and am apalled
to learn that it'll cost something in the region of £70 to get it
serviced! That's exactly the price I paid for my Mk20 first stage!
Might as well get a complete reg every 2 years and never have them
serviced!!

How do poor mortals such as this just-graduated and as of yet
unemployed fellow do to get their regs serviced in London? Should I
have it done in Eilat, where I will probably have the time following
my flight or would it be unrealistic?

Many thanks for all suggestions,

Raf

Deep Blue Dive in Tynemouth serviced my Mk2 and regs for £35 last week. They
offer a postal service as well I think.

Getting your reg serviced just before you go on holiday isn't the greatest
idea. They're more likely to play up just after they've been serviced.

Service your own regs.

Its piss easy and at least you learn what can go wrong (not a lot if you're
careful and read the regulator servicing book from the same publisher as the
Oxy Hackers Guide), it also means that you can do your own in-the-field
repairs & adjustments.

I've been doing it for a few years on my 8 Apeks regs and the only
difficulty is getting the service kits (I have to get the from abroad due to
the illegal restrictive practices of the UK Scuba industry).

My regs breath great & don't freeflow.

I was of the impression that if you take care of the reg with good rinsing the maint
interval can be extended to a few years. This changed after my regs leaked from the
first stages on a vacation to Cozumel. So now I definitely would make sure the
maintenance is up to date before leaving on vacation.
