Default cheapest digital camera setup with strobe

not wanting to use my main camera in housing, I am looking to buy a basic
digital setup to replace the old 35 point and shoot.

I would prefer something with an external strobe (current camera with built
in flash causes obvious problems)

what would people recommend?

I've just bough Canon A80 4mega pixel with 40m waterproof case for £298 inc
vat from this link, cheapest I could find anywhere and very quick
delivery. Will be taking it to Sharm in 3 weeks

Expect to pay the same again if you want an external strobe.
http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/ is a good place to start for that

I just bought a housing for a Canon A40 for 49 quid and the 2MP camera
that goes inside it for 75 quid. So an underwater setup for less than
the price of most housings and brand new too. I didn't want to put my
£££££ main camera in a housing and flood it and I just want to take
snaps so nothing too fancy.

Housing was from www.camerashop.co.uk (not sure if they have any left
now so you may have to drop them an email)
Camera was from www.srsmicrosystems.co.uk they will try to sell you
the little canon printer too for an additional 25 quid
Have tried it in the pool with good results, especially in macro mode.
Flash not so hot though unless you zoom in slightly. Better to use an
external jobbie or a bloody great big torch and set the white balance
to tungsten.

That's for the really impatient divers.

The G-flash strobe is the less expensive strobe on the market.

Do you have one? Any results on the web? Is there a UK stockist? Looks
pretty interesting!

Cheers,

Ben

That's remarkably cheap. What's the depth rating? (I tried looking at
www.camerashop.co.uk but after 4 minutes it was still down loading so I gave
up.)

Cliff.

Impressed by the price for that set-up; I paid about £30 more. One
weakness is that there is no coupling from the camera for a strobe so
some sort of remote link is needed from the built in flash.

It's the first time I've taken pictures under water and I took about
60 over 6 dives in Elba. This is a great way to photograph - you just
keep on clicking away and even for the beginner there's bound to be
some which are worth while - and you can see them as soon as you get
ashore. The Canon Japan website has an excellent 16 page article on
underwater photography.
