| My wife and I are hoping to do our advanced OW in Sharm in 3 weeks, we did our OW there this June. I realise that I need the "Advanced adventures in diving" for the course but do we need one each? do you have to complete any knowledge reviews like for an OW course. If so I suppose I could just photocopy them? I'm already a bit P*ssed that we'll have to pay another 2 certification fee's (seeing that we've only had our OW cards since June but never used them!) so didn't really want to have to buy another 2 diving manuals as well. Regards Paul. |

Welcome to PADI the shops buy complete "crew packs" that contain everything for the said course, they can't just split a pack. Keith L |

| Yes you need to fill out the knowledge reviews for you and your girlfriend you can normally get the Adventures in diving manual of Ebay. If so I suppose I could just photocopy them? Yes, there are knowledge reviews which need to be completed but I'm sure that whatever diving centre you train with will be happy to accept photocopies. Some however, won't so check first! > I'm already a bit P*ssed that we'll have to pay another 2 certification > fee's (seeing that we've only had our OW cards since June but never used > them!) so didn't really want to have to buy another 2 diving manuals as > well. Unbelievable! It's hardly PADI's fault that you haven't been diving since June, now is it?! And anyway, don't forget that you get an additional certification card for every course you do - that's the whole point of the certification fee! You don't get your old OW card 'upgraded', you know. Personally your 'pikey' attitude to this just amazes me - you want additional training but you seem unwilling to pay for it. I'm a strong believer that you get out of training what you put in - you cut corners and do everything 'on the cheap' and the quality of what you get out of the course will reflect this. Ultimately you're just cheating yourself... |

Sharing a manual between my wife and I isn't cutting corners in my opinion and certainly wont affect the 'quality' of what we'll get out of the course. We shared an OW CD-ROM on the advice of the school we trained with, did we cut corners there as well? Does someone who used a manual exclusively for themselves now poses better diving skills than me? Possibly, but not because he didnt share his book. |

They don't seem to be any cheaper, so presumably this just means their profits are higher... |

You print out the knowledge reviews. Possibly "pikey" but imho I spend enough on diving without chucking money away. If I buy a £40 mask I don't volunteer to pay £50 as "diving costs so much anyway, what's another tenner". If I've got a spare £20 I'll buy Dive Dorset or such like not just hand it over to a shop for a "back up copy" of a manual. Or even put it towards a dive. |

Possibly, but not because he didnt share his book. > As I remember, simply 'sharing a book' wasn't the issue. I seem to remember you being 'a bit p*ssed that we'll have to pay another 2 certification fees' because 'we've only had our OW cards since June but never used them' (which, it seems, you think is PADI's problem). Put simply, your original post revealed you as a pikey skinflint that seems to feel that just because you've completed one course, the rest should be complimentary... |
