Default OT: computer shops in Sharm

I'm taking my new digital camera and underwater case to Sharm next week,
with the 2 memory card I've only got a maximum of about 220 photos.

As I dont really want to take my laptop on holiday with me does anyone know
if the computer shop/internet cafe in the basement of the main shopping
centre in Sharm will transfer the data on my compact flash cards to a cdr.

There are several internet cafes - I haven't used them, so I don't know
if they have cd writers available

What I use is a Flashtrax - 30mb hard disk, with lcd screen and compact
flash slot - press a button and it copies everything on the card to the
hard disk, where you can view it (and play mp3's as well!) - it fits in
your pocket and is much lighter than a laptop. You can then plug it into
your pc when you get home to copy the images off. You can also plug it
into the telly to watch your piccies there!

There are other similar things on the market

I hope you mean 30GB :)

Quite a range of them around now, been looking into them myself.

Throw a couple of brand names into Google and there are plenty of
reviews too, e.g.

Is the screen worth it? I have a screen on my camera, and they look
great on there, but get them on a laptop or similar and suddenly focus
seems like a good idea! The screens don't look much bigger than the
camera so I didn't think there would be much benefit. Just plug the
camera into a TV if available instead to help select those to keep.

This looked like a good idea until I saw the price. At £260 for the lowest
capacity model it is something I can do without.

Cliff.

My mistake - yes it is a 30Gb

The screen is better than the camera screen - about twice as big, plus
you get the option to zoom in on them - I don't bin any shots until I
get home and put them on the big screen - I have three trips to Egypt,
plus many other days photos still on mine and still have plent of room.
I'll archive them all onto DVD someday

Archos do the Gmini 120, which reads CF cards and is cheaper than that.
However, given you can get a 512Mb CF card for about 50 quid now, just
buying a couple of them might be a better idea.

Precisely. I could buy five such cards for the price of the Flashtrax.

Cliff.
