| Following an earlier thread, I have just taken my tank to be tested (to a test station - not a dive shop than sends them on to someone else) Last test was a hydro which was valid until feb 04 so the cylinder is out of test (by old standards). I was told that I therefore needed a hydro and not a visual test I note that the BSAC site states "Therefore, the next test date will be when these periods are added to the last test date stamped on the cylinder for visual or visual and hydraulic test. SITA (Scuba Industry Trade Association) also hold this view" . Based on this the cylinder would still be in test I did question this (i.e change in standards etc), but was told that if the visual is not carried out within 1 month of the expiry of the previous hydro, then a second hydro is required. Has anyone found this before? . |

I've never found that. I've taken cylinders well out of test (i.e. expire september, test in march) without problem. Cheers Matt. |

Yes. When you come down to it the hydro is the important one and doing the visual late really shouldn't be allowed to push the next hydro back. I would prefer them to visual it until the hydro due date but the way the stamps work that would mean backdating the visual so it ain't going too happen. nigelH |

No but some shops will do a visual several months after it is due that is valid up until 2.5 years after the hydro. So you don't gain anything by doing it late, but you don't have to get a hydro either. Shop around.
