OK, now I think you're trolling but I'll carry on regardless. Err... Electronics and salt water... All computers fail eventually. I thought that's why you plan the dive on tables and use the computer "just in case" on any dive to those sorts of depth. Alun Harford |

It does look a bit like that but let's play honest broker. Mine has never given trouble but if you can afford two why not? 8-) Most of us carry tables and a D-timer so we can get ourselves out of the mire on that. Watch the battery voltage, on the first screen, and changing it regularly deals with most reported problems on the current models. The earlier ones didn't have quite such a good reputation. Its deco model is Bühlmann with their own deep stops addition. Set the conservatism to 10 or 20 or you're on a rather fast profile and you ought to pad it yourself. Its ability to manage multiple gases goes beyond most normal off the shelf computers you find in dive shops and complicates the operation. If all you are doing is one mix diving this is totally over the top. That said it is reasonably clear, as I said earlier some of the text is a bit small and the manual was bad and is now only poor. If mine died or vanished I'd buy another one. nigelH |

Just a thought I'm trying to get to see it first as I hear it has to leave some stuff off and I'm not quite clear what. But then it's 25 quid and I can spend more than that for a day's seasickness watching other people dive... ....although fresh back from the Malin Head trip I went out today and other people were seasick and not me... nigelH |

| I tried the big graphic mode but as it left of TTS I felt squinting would be better..... and now use the normal graphics mode "Danny Burchett" <me@privacy.net> wrote in message news:hd9ch0lojdrkhi7a5085brocq5lj60lc7s@4ax.com... > On Sat, 7 Aug 2004 06:48:32 +0000 (UTC), "Nigel Hewitt" > <news@REMOVETHISnigelhewitt.co.uk> wrote: > > >cc <patagonia135bp@yahoo.com> wrote: > > > >> hi anyone have any comments on vr3 dive computers? > > > >Quite a bunch of us have them and use them. > >I have the C4 model and my only problem is that my poor > >old eyes find some of the display elements a bit small. > >Any specific questions? > > > Nigel, > > have you looked at getting the Big Graphics upgrade? I initially considered the big graphics mode myself but it increases the amount of space given to some information at the expense of dropping other information! As Francis mentions, the time to surface display is removed from the main screen which is not good! |

Since being assimilated I desperately wanted a CC computer which would handle mix. The VR3 seemed to be the tool I was looking for, I have a nexus for air dives but this appears to be in a hurry to get up to 6m without specifying intermediate stops (I do these anyway). Using tables (DD Plan) isn't a great problem but they assume square profiles so If I touch the seabed at 40m then spend the next 25 min at 30m on the deck of a wreck. I was left with the choice- With conservative gradient factors I could guestimate the max depth; and enjoy a multi level wreck dive on tables. I made a scenic dive with someone sporting their VR3, as we slowly ascended a wall approaching a shelf at 40m he stopped and within arms reach of the plateau, held his depth for a minute. He was concentrating on his VR3. "Is this a stop" I asked in disbelief, he just nodded (the cat must have got his tongue) hissed and blew a raspberry of bubbles... I didn't know he would take it so personally! Between this point and our final exit he made a few more of these sub 21m stops, I was going to ask for a look at his display but after the 1st response I bit my tongue..... "Sh** , F***" that hurt! He quickly glanced at me and by the pained look in his eyes he must have empathised with my own pain. He started making punching actions towards his beloved computer! Why does he hate it so? If I could blow a months worth of income on a dive computer I would take it to bed with me! Ah, in the clarity of air where he could reply to my questions I was told about the VR3's insistence of making deep stops, and the habit of sulking within a minute if it doesn't get it's own way, even if it the dive is multilevel below 30m! My illusions of this have been shattered, My credit card is going to remain a little lean until they come up with some kind of multilevel function to allow the freedom of ascending the side of a wrecked hull without making a stop within feet of the gunwalls. I would happily make the deep stops on final ascent. I know the machines are upgradeable, does the latest software allow for deep multilevel flexibility? This would be the time I reach for the plastic.
