Default Dive computers

OK, 2 questions in one.

Which computer?

Need Air/Nitrox modes
Not bothered about premium for wristwatch style (stinger/aqualand)
Computer hookup would be nice, probably

Where to buy it?

In UK
Mail-order from US
Mallorca (be there in a few days)
Hurghada (be there in just over a week)

Try Amphibian Sports in West Norwood, London.

Bob Lenham often has the best prices, especially on Suunto, so the Vyper or
Vytec are logical choice as they both also offer Gauge mode.

I find prefer the timer on the Vytec better than my wife's Vyper as it also
has seconds (although some would see that as a gimmick).

Alternatively you might be able to get a second-hand Vyper if someone is
upgrading a Vytec (3 nitrox mixes) or a VR3 (Tri_Mix /CCR)

Recreational. Single tank, only outside the UK. Air and Nitrox. Not
particularly into decompression diving, but it may come in useful some
day. Haven't tried TriMix but doubt I will have much use for that.

I still recommend Suunto Vyper.

If you can do without the above try the Suunto Gekko it is basically the
vyper without the download option but quite a bit cheaper. It is currently
£139 at www.godive-uk.com

I like my Mosquito - 350 euros in Madeira in May, (£245), but seems to
be around £200 here.

Don't bother with a US import as you will probably pay all the VAT and a
handling charge when it arrives in the UK, negating the difference in cost
(unless you or a friend travel to the US and buy it over the counter &
return with it in the luggage).

You could also have issues with your warranty and some units are
pre-programmed at manufacture with Imperial or metric and can't be changed.
This is not so for the Vyper & Vytec, which can be changed by the user on
the buttons or with the PC interface, but I don't know about other makes or
models.

Why the Vyper over the Gekko?
