| Hi, I've only looked at this group for the first time today. I've been snorkelling in Greece and Italy. I love watching the fish and seeing the colours of the rocks and things that you just don't see unless you look below the surface. But while snorkelling I have had the feeling that I'd really like to go deeper to explore, and stay under for longer than I can hold my breath... Now I have bought a red-letter day 2 hour scuba experience. I'm looking forward to that, but if I like it, where do I go from there? Reading the posts I gather you're mostly in clubs. Where can I find out about local clubs in north Shropshire/Welsh border? I've already asked at the local swimming pool but they know not. The scuba experience is about 55 miles away, which is ok for a one-off, but a bit far for weekly meetings or whatever, I'm sure you'll agree. Regards Steve |

Steve, welcome to diving -- I really hope you enjoy your try dive. I guess the split here is probably 50:50 between those in clubs and those who just did a course and then dive as and when they can arrange it. There are benefits of both systems, probably best to google the group for "PADI BSAC", there are bound to be some good discussions... PADI is the main commencial course offerer, in England and Wales there are two dominant clubs, the SAA and BSAC. PADI tends to charge for tuition, BSAC tends to charge to join. At the end of the day both give you a diving qualification. I only really know about BSAC, to find a branch near you I suggest you try http://www.bsac.org/branches/branchlist.htm or find the telephone number of the regional coach for your region and give them a call for a chat. Remember not all clubs are the same and you may not find the one that suits you best first time out. Ben -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ben Panter, Edinburgh, UK email is false. For some reason the fish really run away from you when you're diving down with a snorkel, but let you get right up to them with scuba. Enjoy. |

Courses are done Tues/Weds/Thurs evenings, with open water training at Dosthill quarry which is near Tamworth. Open water dive course is £250, with Advanced another £200. They are a PADI 5 star centre, and although not a club as such - spend as much time in the pub as in the water. |
