I think the consensus is that it is too good to be true, or he is one

On my first trip to Sharm in October 02, the dive guide wore just the same
sort of stuff and he seemed to be fine - he was a mad Irishman though!

His Italian colleague wore a drysuit on the same dives.

Only one way to find out - try it, but pack a 3mm suit as well in case it's
too cold for you
