Personally I wouldn't worry about it as I suspect it's more of an isolated
incident taking advantage of a target of opportunity (ie. Israeli tourists)
rather than the start of a campaign against tourists in the Egyptian Red
Sea. Security has always been tight around the Red Sea resorts and it's sure
to be stepped up in the aftermath of what happened at Taba...

Enjoy your holiday and if you're that worried, change it to a liveaboard!

I don't know about how "safe" you'll be there and then, but I went to
Hurghada the week after the big shooting in Luxor some years back.

The place was like a ghost town, but it was good to get good deals in
some of the shops if you can stand the haggling!

Dont remember leaving the UK when the IRA were active
and we had enough bombs then. Didnt stop anybody
going to Soho or Brixton when the Gays/Ethnic people
were targeted. Didnt stop going to Spain or Canaries
when the ETA were playing on the Costas, nor Scily
when the Mafia were having a go at the Judges.

Eqypt after Luxor/Cairo, New York after 9/11,
Istanbul after the Embassy bombing, Unibomber,
Washington Sniper, Bali bombings, Russian subway
bombings/plane crashes.

I've left out the Balkans + regional spats like
Northern Ireland etc. and of course the naturals
Florida hurricanes, Japanese earthquakes. Monsarat
volcanos, typhoons etc.

We live in an increasingly violent world, but come on what
are the real odds? Less than getting bitten by a Shark?
That doesnt stop us diving with them does it?

Even now you're more likely to get killed in a road accident than in a
terrorist attack.

Hasn't stopped anyone driving a car, has it?

Going to Sharm tomorrow (10th October) for a week to find somewhere to live.
My SO and I will be moving out there. I have made conatct with my freinds
out in Egypt and the attacks were solely against Israelis at the time of
their holiday. I lived in Hurghada for a year just after the massacre in
Luxor and as the previous poster had said, there was no difference to life
(except it was tourist-free).
Only Germany and the US have issued travel warnings to the region of the
Sinai. As such, there is nothing going to stop me from moving out of this
country (which is even more dangerous) to a place where the sun always
shines, the people are mostly happy and smile more, and my back garden will
overlook Ras Mohammed, instead of the Dartford River Crossing. Same traffic
queues, but different traffic!
Hope the rest of you enjoy you impending hols!

I'm just back in the UK having dived from Sharm El Sheikh all week. The
bomb in Taba had no visible effect in Sharm. Enjoy the diving!

tthat terrorist threat is still there and now includes the threat of
kidnapping!

Just back from Dahab. We only knew that something happened when friends and
family started to phone to ask if we were OK. For the rest nobody over
there seemed to worry much. There were a bit more controls on the roads,
but otherwise it was business as usual.
