If you look on ebay, Motormarine (MMII), + Strobe, tend to be around
£160-£210, if thats what you call cheap 'ish?

But to get decent shots you have to add either a macro on wide angle
and view finder. Budget 50-100 for the former and 100-200 for the
latter. Still means you can be up and running for between 200 and 400
which is really cheap for the quality it can produce

In the last two years I have met only 1or 2 using film u/water and about
80 digital and those two were looking for buyers for thier kit.

So go for No 2

Yeah, right!!!! Where?!!!! I've been looking for a replacement MMII-EX for a
while now (don't need the strobe) and I'll be damned if I can find one going
cheap...

I suspect that the vast majority of those 80 divers were into 'fun'
photography rather than the more serious 'SLR in an enclosure with a dome
port and multiple strobes types'...

Fact is that most of the more serious underwater photographers still use wet
film due to the lack of TTL compatibility on most digital cameras. From what
I can see, Olympus and Fuji seem to be the only brands that support this
all-important functionality...

I was talking about the MMII not the EX, but take a look at:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...03&item=384562
3121&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

£250 with all the bits. 2 days to go no bids.

Or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...03&item=384535
4973&rd=1

or

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...304&item=38458
40974&rd=1

etc.

Wet film? Only when the housing leaks!!!!

It's not "all important", but it sure helps. You can shoot manual RAW
and tweak after the dive.

But as I said before, a LOT of the professional photographers are now
digital. Instant feedback, speed of results, the ability to manipulate
images. At the last BSoUP meeting, there was one speaker using digital
and slide projection. Same subjects on each, one after the other.
Digital won easily. The other speaker was using digital. There were
some camera systems on show. All digital.

Lord Lichfield is on record as saying he hasn't used film for two
years.

Ilford has filed for administration because they are in the shit.

Kodak are closing camera factories in the UK.

Some were into 'fun' many were more serious. Of the ones into 'fun'
(though why bother if it is not fun I don't know ) they were the
only ones using any film.

All the more serious (Though why you require an 'SLR in an enclosure
with a dome port' I am not sure, it is not always the best tool) were
all using digital

On that subject I can not give an informed opinion. As I do not wish to
spend the money for a housed SLR so have not looked into it. However the
last person who was using one was using a Cannon and AFIK it had TTL
compatibility.

I have a MMIIEx + YS50 + peli-case for sale... Make me an offer before
I stick it on eBay...

I think the problem with the proces on eBay is that people like me paid
£700+ for them only a few years ago and now the bottms dropped out of
the market. It's a damn fine (for a non-slr) camera if you ask me and
I've taken many good photos with it, but never really had the time to
scan the slides or negs, alas.

To be honest Gordon, I wouldn't want to insult you with the sort of money
I'd be prepared to pay for a second hand MMII-EX (ie. about £100!). I've
already got a YS60S so I wouldn't need the strobe or the case (got one of
those too) so all I'd need is the camera. To be honest, you'd be better off
sticking it on ebay as a bundle...
