Haven't been there for that recently (about 5 years) but I think it would
pretty much fit the bill.
You are closer to Abu Nuhas, and you don't tend to go to the same sites as
the dayboats from Hurghada.
It's a completley manufactured resort, so not as shabby as Hurghada, nor do
you get the hassle associated with the same, also, the choice of shops is
very limited.
The Movenpick in El Gouna looked very nice, iirc

Hi,

I was in El Gouna Oct 2004. We stayed 2 weeks at the Sheraton Miramar,
4.5/5*
what ever that means. The hotel has an on-site dive operation, TGI
Diving.

Did 10 dives over 5 days with them and the diving was excellent. Only
gripe
would be not knowing where you were diving until the morning of the
dive,the
constant wind from the North can make some dive sites unaccesible. We
set off
for the Thistlegorm one morning, should have been a 3 hr trip but
after 2.5 hrs
we were not half way there !!! There were 3m waves out in the channel,
dived Gubal island that day.

No large pelagic fish, did see a number of Stingray's and a few
turtles, dives
ranged from 10 to 30 m. Wall dives, coral gardens, a few wrecks, etc.

They operate 2-3 boats, can be a lottery which boat you go on. Never
saw more
than 4 dives boats at any one dive site.

El Gouna has three good hotels, Sheraton Miramar, Movenpick and
Steinlager (sp)
Golf Resort. We found the Movenpick a bit too big, Sheraton never felt
busy, didn't go to the Golf resort

www.elgouna.com

Beaches are nice, left my better half there most dive days, always
sunny
but constant northly wind. Good restaurants at the Marina and
downtown.

Overall very good, trying to go back in February
