Why is every group obsessed with jumping ship from nin when the new
charge is only 10 euro per YEAR?
Surely a reliable provider is worth that?

This is the problem of feeding a bad internet habit on an
academic salary. They view that as 10 euro per YEAR!

I can't talk. I'm posting via teranews from the office.
It's not quite free but Ben asked for reliable which it
ain't. At home it's BT which is built in to my ADSL bill.

You could try news.sunsite.dk, you have to register but it's free and
reliable. It's run on a danish university servers.

Send an e-mail to news-signup@sunsite.dk and you'll recieve login
information.

Cheers
Jonas

Tried that one, but got 'no data on server' as reply.

Not just reliable, but good at filtering out the crap, too. They did a good
job of filtering the dippy floods last year.

Well quite... although to be fair 10 E isn't so bad.

The problem for me is flexibility. I have numerous different working
locations and it's nice to just be able to connect. PIPEX will only run
from my UK home address, T-online from my German one, nntp.edin from
Edinburgh and nntp.mpa-garching from work in Germany. Blah blah blah.

NIN worked from all of them and was quick and efficient. If the other
suggestions made don't work well I reckon I can splash out 10 E...

cheers to all for your suggestions

Ben
