Impressive! Any chance of some more details of the actual construction? Just
how much is possible without access to engineering tools in excess of a
pillar drill? I've had a crack at constructing a torch in the past from
readily made materials, everything I tried failed as I couldn't machine even
a simple grove for an o-ring.

So that's the challenge - is it possible to construct an umbilical torch
from readily available materials (i.e. not pre-machined torch bits) without
having access to a lathe and milling machine? Although I must admit that
with some HID torches costing in excess of £1K and a combi lathe/mill coming
out at about £700 even the economics of buying the tools starts to look
viable

Thanks for the link - a very nice looking torch.

Nice one Alain.

Here is one three of us put together.

4 hour burn time
3 hour charge time, without opening canister
10W HID Welchallyn M10N002
Switch on the torch, with no mechanical incert through the body
No moving parts in the head (no reed relays etc)
All alluminium, bomb proof!
Borosilicate lens
Wet connector to battery pack
Tested to 50 Mtrs, but is expected to do at lease 100Mtrs
Drop tested

www.commonswood.co.uk/downer/torch

Complete head.jpg is a view inside the head
Complete torch.jpg is the whole thing
torch 2a.jpg is all the parts for 1 HID head, 1 Battery pack & 1 Halogen
head
Battery charge.doc is the battery charging cycle
