Curious how that worked for you? It worked very well indeed. A small Vivitar DF120 flsh (from 7dayshop) in an Otterbox 1000. This was held in my left hand, approx 1ft away from the camera and pointing at the subject. The diffuser in front of the built-in flashgun on my Oly750uz was replaced with a piece of black plastic cut out from the insert of a CD case. The Oly flash was turned down to fire at -2EV, yet despite the lower power and the blacking out the Vivitar fired reliably. The blacking out eliminated direct illumination from the built-in flash, turning down the built-in flash to one-quarter power maximises the camera battery life, yet there was plenty of light leaking around to trigger the Vivitar. Took the setup to Capernwray and took some pics of fish, mussels, and mostly my son Tom. The clarity was excellent, some pics look as if they could have been taken in tropical clear waters! Have since built a flash bracket using plastic flash bars by Hama, togethr with nuts, bolts and washers from B&Q. Meanwhile have arranged for the Vivitar to be powered by AA cells by mounting these external to the flashgun but of course within the Otterbox. Two pairs of AAs in parallel hold around six times the charge of a pair of AAAs do, and so minimises chances of running out of flash power during a dive, and minimising recharge times. The full setup (haven't tried the flash bracket yet) is unlikely to be tested until next month's family holiday during which I plan to do some dives (booked to do 5, last week July). I'll happily send you a few sample pics. Is your hotmail address referred to in your messages OK? I must admit my "return email address" is NOT OK as it is a wondrous way of attracting spam and other meats, some pretty hot! Ken |
