Kenia Diving The Crab

I'll be in the "Neptune Paradise Village ' hotel in August for some days.
The diving centre there is "Diving The Crab". I did not find any non biased
opinions on this operator on the web. But surely some of you passed along
this stretch of the coast south of Mombasa and did some diving there. Any
suggestions ?

I've only dived north of Mombassa but from what I can find from old
pamphlets and logged data this may be interesting:


May to October day time air temp 22 - 28.
November to April day time air temp 27 - 32.

Water temp 26 - 28 with 30+ at times in the top 5 meters.

I dived in a 3mm shorty, no probs. The locals dive in 3mm full one
piece, they feel the cold.

May to June heavy rain (monsoon). I've had it start in April.

Then up to November the wind comes and keeps the humidity down a bit (it
feels like it anyway) but blows the froth off of your beer.

Vis: Soon after the rains start the vis drops from gin clear to 8 to 12
meters. More prevalent if you are near a river outlet. When the rain
stops the plankton bloom takes over till October same sort of vis. BUT
this brings in the Whale Sharks and BIG Manta in October.

In my opinion for what its worth and if your circumstances allow, is to
go November to April. It's quieter and with more sunshine hotter, this
also means cheaper.

Places to dive out of choice would include some of the reefs off of
Kilifi and the National Marine Park off of Watamu.
