| Diving shallow today off Selsey I was in the act of changing a mooring chain for a local fisherman. As I thrunged around heaving the old chain around and stirring up a poor viz, a cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis?) hove into view right next to me. Looked at me for a while then shot off. Made my dive. After work I proceeded to collect a number of oysters (Ostrea edulis)from around the mooring. Gave them to the fisherman as I am not fond of them. Coming ashore some of the older fisherman lags pontificated about oysters and metal. I found mine on the sea bed away from any metal/chains. Safe to eat??? Eddie |
