| Dear All, After many years I have finally got round to thinking about going on a diving holiday. Never done it before (apart from snorkelling in Crete) and I would like to know how to start. Initially I thought we should just book a weeks holiday and do the Open water course - but many people are saying to try it out first in the UK. Is there approved centres so I can find one near me? (Oxford). and also maybe doing the theory here and then the dives on holiday? Don't fancy sitting in a classroom when there! My other question is obviously where to go! Looking at the Red Sea, but have been advised against Sharm as its too busy and Darhab (not sure if the spelling is right!) has been recommended as it is quieter for beginners. We would only go for a week I think as our budget is under £800? so carribean and australia is out I think - any other recommended places? Have also looked at going with Active Adventures - first people I found and have been very nice so far - does anyone have any experience with them? Last question - which is a bit far out. The main reason I want to go so much is that much of my artwork is based on marine fish and wildlife and I really want to see fish not in tanks. My absolute favourites are puffer fish and does anyone know of locations to see them, especially pygmy. I haven't done much research yet so this may be a bit of a stupid question! Anyone who has reached the end of this ramble deserves a medal! So any replies or advice would be fantastic. Thanks Jules www.juliabailey.info - if anyone wants to browse my work!
