| Sharm Dive Trip . we used the Renaissance Golden View at the tip of Ras Umm Sid, near the lighthouse . and it was without doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in on holiday. Fantastic 2 balcony room overlooking the sea. Day 1 saw us sampling the house reef .. and this was a very long private section of the reef which joins directly to the Ras Umm Sid dive site, superb sea life all in snorkelling depth. My son encountered a 2m Manta which was in close to the house reef for an afternoon . caused a distinct buzz for all those snorkelling. The next day we went for first of many boat dives . sites dived were The Gardens (Fiddle garden) Ras Umm Sid Jackfish Alley Ras Ghozlani Jackson Reef on Tiran island Thomas Reef on Tiran island The Dunraven Wreck Small Crack Inside Ghozlani The Ras Umm Sid dive was spectacular as a reasonably fast paced drift dive, and the amazing coral formations, coupled with the very large turtle that joined us for the dive. The Tiran islands dive were certainly invigorating, the first one of Jackson reef saw us drop off, and after a few minutes of finning hard we wee making no headway at all, an extraction followed by a new drop off a few hundred metres away, and we were off for another drift dive at a fair old rate of knots. Of the numerous sites in Ras Mohammed National Park, the Small Crack site stands out . with entry from within a lagoon, the turquoise colour of the water was like the very best tropical island, and the swim out through the crack, revealed stunning coral walls, with expansive canyons, visually brilliant. It was great to see some of the sea life previously only seen on TV or books . huge Tuna, massive solitary Napoleon Wrasse, small schools of enormous Barracuda, Turtles, Morays, lion fish, Stone fish, Giant Trevallies, spotted rays, Risso Dolphins .. etc. All of the diving was carried out with Elite Diving .... Alun Evans runs Elite, and provides exactly what we wanted . interesting, exhilarating, safe diving . with a 'Lets enjoy it , you're on holiday attitude.' No hassle of somebody trying to convince you how good they are or how many years they have been doing something, his goal is to get you where you need to be and let you enjoy the diving. We had discussed going to Dahab to dive the Blue Hole, but when the bombs went off there that night . soon gave up on that idea. I would have no hesitation in recommending Elite Diving to anybody going out to Sharm, and I will certainly dive with Alun again when we return later in the year. If anybody is looking for a compnay to dive with in Sharm then try Alun on ... alunevansbuzby@yahoo.co.uk There is an Elite web site .. but it's under construction at : www.elite-diving.com Rick |
