Default St Thomas -- 2004 Oct 09-16

My wife and I will be leaving for St Thomas this Saturday, Oct 09;
returning on the 16th. We'll be staying in the Villas at the Westin.
If by chance anyone here will also be there then, feel free to look
us up for a dive or a drink or...

Just got back last night. Things were a little slow and a lot hot,
Had fun with 10 dives. Actually 11 if you count the 5 minute dive
checking out a site that had been recommended to the dive master. Oh,
well, I got a fresh tank and 2 more good dives that morning. Enjoy
your trip.

I always dive with Blue Island Divers. Their web site is
http://blueislanddivers.com/ I hadn't been to STT in 2 1/2 years, and
hadn't been diving in that time, so I was ready to get wet. Nothing
very deep, but that's fine with me. Most dives were in the 40' to 55'
range. We did the WIT Shoal on my first dive, which is my favorite
dive there. Did French Cap for 2 dives. Saw several Spotted Eagle
Rays, a few nurse sharks, (one was actually moving, not sleeping.)
barracudas, and a turtle that had to go 400 lbs. I say he was that
big because I used to dive with one that weighed out at 350 lbs when I
was cleaning the windows in the Pittsburgh Zoo shark tank. The one we
saw was substantially larger than Blackie.

Chris Sawyer and Aqua Action are both good shops that I would dive
with again, but I like the folks at Blue Island, and I also like their
dive sites. If you should dive with them, tell them I said Hi.

I was just curious. On two different business trips down there last
winter I dove with Admiralty, Blue Island and Aqua Action. I liked them
all, but probably liked Admiralty best. Marty runs a good operation if
you don't mind a curmudgeon.

If I get another chance to go, I'd dive with either Admiralty or Blue
Island. I liked Aqua Action, too, but they were way out of the way for me.

But on the whole, I'd prefer to take the hop over to St. Croix and do
some wall diving there, or check out the more pristine reefs around St.
Johns.
