| Hi...I'm brand new here, but this is a question I might be able to answer... Discover Diving Dive Center 92 Dunlawton Avenue Daytona Beach, FL 32127 904-760-3483 They're right near Port Orange, about 90 minute drive from Orlando. Nice shop, nice boat, nice people. They have a couple of wreck dives...just watch your depth. What they claimed was about 55 feet was more like 75. Hope that helps. -Amanda Shawn Willden wrote: > Hey everyone, > > I'm taking the family to Orlando on the 19th of October and my wife and I > want to see if we can squeeze in a day of diving. | Better than summer but not as good as winter... away from the inlets it can be 100+ horizonal, and 40-50 vertical. | How does Daytona compare to Pompano, just a few hours south? The gulf stream is a lot further out in Daytona, right? So is it noticeably colder? And does it have the same north-south ledge reefs (not sure that's the right term) that you find in Pompano. I've only dove around the Keys (and Pompano) and would sure love to find some closer places to do single day diving. (I live in Orlando.) Thanks, TT "Ed" <ed@nospam.com> wrote in message news:6KU%e.50$Gd.21@bignews7.bellsouth.net... > Better than summer but not as good as winter... away from the inlets it > can be 100+ horizonal, and 40-50 vertical. > > > > Tom "HappyFunBoater" Treadway wrote: > >> What's the visibility like this time of year in Daytona? >> >> TT >> >> >> "Amanda" <amandaSPAMBAIT@rcn.com> wrote in message >> news:433FF18F.6060009@rcn.com... >> >>>Hi...I'm brand new here, but this is a question I might be able to >>>answer... >>> >>>Discover Diving Dive Center >>>92 Dunlawton Avenue >>>Daytona Beach, FL 32127 >>>904-760-3483 >>> >>>They're right near Port Orange, about 90 minute drive from Orlando. | Jupiter is some of the best diving with the Gulfstream very close and a similar reef pattern of Pompano FLL. Lots of fish including snapper etc. HappyFunBoater wrote: > How does Daytona compare to Pompano, just a few hours south? The gulf > stream is a lot further out in Daytona, right? | You can try the Tampa/Clearwater area. I went with a dive operator out of Clearwater for a day trip and it was pretty easy diving. | Hey everyone, I'm taking the family to Orlando on the 19th of October and my wife and I want to see if we can squeeze in a day of diving. We have managed to get someone to watch the kids for one full day, so we have one day to drive, dive and return. Assuming there are no hurricanes, of course. We have talked about just doing the Living Seas dive in the Epcot center aquarium. I did that a few years back and had a surprisingly good time. However, I'd like to see what other options there are for a nice day of diving, assuming an early morning start in the Orlando area. I'm a reasonably comfortable diver with ~100 dives logged, my wife is a relative newbie with about 15 post-certification dives. We like most any kind of diving, although she prefers not to go too deep. 100 feet is her outer limit. She might particularly enjoy swimming around a nice wreck, since that's something she hasn't done before. So, any suggestions? Specific dive sites, operators, etc. Any and all information greatly appreciated. Thanks, Shawn. |
