| I have never been there. But while I was enjoying lunch in Akumal, Mexico I pressed a diving companion about his travels. He had scuba dived all over the world. I asked him where was the most abundance of beautiful tropical fish he had seen. He said Tavernier, Florida. |

| I just spent a long weekend in Tavernier. Ocean Pointe Suites and Conch Republic Divers. I give good marks to Conch Republic. Out on time, in on time, left nobody behind. (This is impotant , 'cause I missed the mooring line coming up from the Speigle Grove.) On Ocean Pointe, read the reviews on other travel sites. They lived down to them. The big wrecks are not to be missed. The Speigle Grove is spectacular. Water was still only 77F. Take a 3-mil unless you're hot-blooded. As for night life, sorry I just dove my brains out. No partying. Resturants: Hit the Fish House in Key Largo. Also Don's Diner in Key Largo for breakfast. For upscale eats, try Atlantic's Edge in Tavernier. It's not much more expensive than the Fish House - $128 for two including $40 for wine. Me bride felt the wine list was thin, but both of us loved the food. That help?
