American Airlines Baggae Allowance

And I fly Emirates because if you join the frequent flyers club they
carry sports equipment FREE.

In general though I agree with all the sentiments expressed about
airlines and baggage and.... and.... When we went to G Cayman, we had
enough luggage allowance for 1 Inspiration, 1x20kg tub of lime, and
enough left for all the "other" things people take on holiday.

If you're only diving nitrox, it isn't. It's about the same.

Britannia got very arsey on my last trip to the Maldives. My hand luggage
was a whole 7kgs. It only really had my camera, housing, flash and a spare
set of clothes in it. Next time I'm going to put everything in my pockets,
get my bag weighed, and then put it all back in there. What a farce.

The standard layout for a 777 is 9 across. Common configs are 3-3-3 or
2-5-2. AA uses the 2-5-2 version. There are a few airlines that use a
10 across 3-4-3 layout. None could fit 12 across

2x32 is the standard alowance on all flights between Europe and
US/Canada regardless of airline

How many or what constitutes "frequent flier".........

I recently did a trip using Emirates and had 6 flights in the trip, the
last of those 6 flights the check in girl told me i was 2kg over my 30kg
for the hold......i smiled and said sorry.......she was not joking....30
is the allowance and your over.....we had to take it out and put it in the
carry on.......how ridiculous is that ??????

In flight they were crap too.....

some employees have taken their employer to task over lifting heavy bags,
over a set weight they wont pick it up. would you have felt so pleased with
yourself for persuading the check-in girl to except your over weight bag. to
find it left on the tarmac because it was too heavy for some jobsworth to
lift.

That's the opposite of what I had last year on a Malta trip.

22Kg Hold
5Kg Hand

5Kg Extra free for Diving kit.

I came in at 32 Kg for Hold Baggage and they didn't bat an eyelid
at check in.

Might be because it was short haul though.

No i wouldn't, but there has to be some uniformity here.....what is

The thread above clearly states and i have experienced it myself, that
flying through US airspace one gets 32kg per bag (max two bags in hold)
and my bag was just that......so i wouldn't have said it was "overweight"
Recently on the same route and different carrier i was confined to 20kg.
Which is shite......for a diver anyway....

I think it a good idea to have a "max weight" per ticket, we would all
know exactly where we stand, the carriers would be able plan ahead much
better, excess weight could be "by arrangement" and booked in advance and
charged........everyone would be (not quite happy but) more prepared......

Common sense is not very common is it ?

Must be the Yanks fly heavy it was almost embarasing checking in
with only 1 bag just over 20kg (had to rush round adding stuff to
get it up a bit) and 3kg hand luggage

if i had gone the shorter route round the globe it would have been
a lot more money and only 20Kg limit

Still the 26 hrs flying from Japan to Huston and thru to London
with only 2 films repeated every 2 hrs was Fun :)

Joining the club makes you a member of the frequent flyers club.

We only joined because of the luggage benefits. The application forms
are in the seat pocket in front of you. Even if you never aquire
enough Emirates Miles to get an upgrade the luggage benefits are worth
having.

And the prebooked seats.

And the meal preferences.

Nice one.. When I arrived at Truk (a few years ago), I was shocked to
see a large american pull out a weight belt in the airport.. and this
weight belt looked like it weighed as much as Al, and then some..
